Words cannot express how much of a loss Alexander McQueen's death was not just for fashion's sake, but for the world. As one of the greatest modern artists of the new century, Alexander McQueen has been a constant source of inspiration and wonder, particularly for me.
When I first was introduced to fashion, there were only about a hand-full designers that took my breath away. Looking at their work, I could feel my heart beating inside of my chest and I remember just wanting to cry because I had never seen work so beautiful. Alexander McQueen was one of those designers. Ever since then, the work of Alexander McQueen has constantly given me hope for the future of the fashion industry. His fashion shows, theatrical megaliths in their own right, have pushed up to and spilled over the edges of what people normally perceive a fashion show to be. For McQueen, a fashion show was more than just a presentation, and, for McQueen, each collection was more than just clothes.
For our generation, McQueen will become a couturier of legend. Just as the generations of men and women who lived through the first world war lauded the names of designers like Poiret and Vionnete, McQueen will go down in history as one of the defining designers of the first decade of the new century.
It is a pity that we could not have kept him longer, but it is a consolation to know that he will never be forgotten.
Long Live Alexander McQueen.

"We are devastated to learn of the death of Alexander McQueen, one of the greatest talents of his generation. He brought a uniquely British sense of daring and aesthetic fearlessness to the global stage of fashion. In such a short career, Alexander McQueen’s influence was astonishing — from street style, to music culture and the world’s museums. His passing marks an insurmountable loss."
